Superman: DCU Movie Reportedly Has Star Wars-Like Opening
Superman reportedly has a Star Wars-like opening crawl at the start of the movie.
Superman arrives in United States theaters in less than a month. Written and directed by James Gunn, the Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios movie stars David Corenswet as the titular character, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
While Creature Commandos was the first project officially set in Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, Superman will be the first film that’s part of the new shared universe. The film won’t be an origin story, meaning that this world is already inhabited by superheroes right from the get-go.
What do we know about the opening of Superman?
According to those attending a Superman press event in Brazil, the opening of the movie will be similar to the start of 1977’s Star Wars. Whether or not this means there’s an actual opening crawl or just some informational text is unclear at this time; however, it seems that there will be some on-screen exposition to help contextualize the DCU.
The cast of Superman also includes Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., and María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica/The Engineer.
“Superman, DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures,” the official synopsis for the movie reads. “In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.”
Superman will be released in theaters and IMAX on July 11, 2025.
