Channing Tatum & Kirsten Dunst Crime Drama Roofman Gets First Photos

Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst star in the first photos for the upcoming crime drama Roofman.

Based on a true story, Tatum plays felon Jeffrey Manchester, a former U.S. Army Reserve officer turned thief who broke into more than 60 McDonald’s overnight via their roofs. Manchester would then empty its cash registers in the morning. Manchester became known as the “Rooftop Robber” or “Roofman.” To evade capture, Manchester would hide in the walls of a Toys “R” Us.

Entertainment Weekly released the first photos from the movies, which tease Tatum and Dunst’s characters. Tatum revealed that he had conversations with the real Manchester, whom he calls a “beautiful and unfortunate soul.”

“I really hope Jeff likes the movie,” Tatum told EW. “He’s made some bad decisions in his life. That is a fact. But he is probably the first one to tell you that. But I just find him such a beautiful and unfortunate soul. It breaks my heart; he’s so smart and alive, even on a phone call. The first time I ever talked to him, I was nervous, and he knew things about me and asked me about my life. He made things really easy.”

Who is involved with Channing Tatum in Roofman?

Joining Tatum in the cast is Dunst, who plays Leigh Wainscott, a divorced mom who works at the Toys “R” Us where Manchester is hiding. The movie focuses on Manchester’s life when he lived in North Carolina under the alias John Zorn for six months in 2004. Manchester falls for Leigh and “tries to build a new life until his past starts to catch up with them.”

Roofman also stars Ben Mendelsohn, Peter Dinklage, Uzo Aduba, Juno Temple, LaKeith Stanfield, Melonie Diaz, Tony Revolori, and Jimmy O. Yang.

Derek Cianfrance directs Roofman from a screenplay he wrote with Kirt Gunn. Cianfrance has not directed a movie since 2016’s The Light Between Oceans. Cianfrance received an Oscar nomination for co-writing the screenplay for 2020’s Sound of Metal.

Dylan Sellers, Chris Parker, Jamie Patricof, and Lynette Howell Taylor are producers.

Roofman opens in theaters on October 10, 2025.
