Maggie Kang gave an extensive interview to Screen Rant in which she spoke about various aspects of KPop Demon Hunters. When asked whether Kang and her co-director Chris Appelhans have sequel ideas, the former responded, “Always. There are always side stories, and there are things we’ve thought of while making this one. There are a lot of questions that are answered, but not fully. I think there are a lot of pockets that we can explore.”
Netflix hasn’t officially announced KPop Demon Hunters 2 yet. However, given the widespread acclaim that the movie has received, the prospect of a sequel seems likely. Netflix will look into the movie’s performance with its subscribers before making any decision.
In KPop Demon Hunters, Rumi, Mira and Zoey are part of the all-girl K-pop group Huntrix. They are also demon hunters tasked to protect humanity from evil entities. The girls discover that the new group Saja Boys is exclusively made up of demons and resolve to stop them. Meanwhile, Rumi, who is part demon, develops a complicated bond with Jinu, the leader of the Saja Boys.
The voice cast of KPop Demon Hunters includes Arden Cho as Rumi (with EJAE singing), Ahn Hyo-seop as Jinu (with Andrew Choi singing), May Hong as Mira (with Audrey Nuna singing), and Ji-young Yoo as Zoey (with Rei Ami singing).
Critics praised the film’s visual style, storyline, and distinctive tone, among other things. The movie’s songs also received largely positive reviews.
