Rebel Wilson & Anna Camp Give Pitch Perfect 4 Update, Talk Bride Hard
ComingSoon spoke to Bride Hard stars Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp about the new action comedy movie. The duo discussed some scenes from the film, along with giving a new Pitch Perfect 4 update. Directed by Simon West, the film combines the raunchiness of Bridesmaids with wild action and explosions. The film is out now in theaters.
“For badass secret agent Sam (Rebel Wilson), blending in has never been part of the mission—until she’s maid of honor at her best friend’s extravagant destination wedding. Out of her element and surrounded by high-maintenance bridesmaids and a strict ‘no weapons’ policy, Sam is determined to prove she can be there for her friend—even if emotional support isn’t exactly her specialty,” says the synopsis.
“But when a team of mercenaries crashes the party and takes the guests hostage, Sam is thrown into a fight unlike any mission before—one where she can’t risk blowing her cover or ruining the big day. As she takes on the bad guys in a high-stakes battle disguised as a fairy-tale affair, she realizes the real threat might be closer than she thinks. Now, it’s bridezilla vs. bazookas as Sam dodges bullets, brawls in heels, and tries to survive both the armed assailants and the wedding planner’s wrath. Some missions require the perfect cover. This one just requires the perfect dress.
Tyler Treese: Rebel, you really earned your action cred here. You got hit in a hit in the face with a gun and had to get stitches while filming. Nobody wants an accident to occur. But knowing that you went through it and you had the stitches to prove it, nobody could deny it. Did that make the end result of you kicking in Bride Hard even more satisfying?
Rebel Wilson: Yeah. I mean, to me, probably my favorite scene in the movie’s when I’m kicking. But I did have the battle scars to prove it. If this had happened in the middle of the shoot… I mean, the movie may never have come to fruition. But it happened on the very last night shoot, like my last hour or two of filming for the movie. Unfortunately, my nose got slashed open and left a huge pool of blood.
Anna Camp: Oh, I’m gonna faint. Ugh. I hate blood.
Wilson: It was awful. It was so bad. Like I can’t even… I’m not underestimating. Yeah. It was terrible, and then the plastic surgeon had to be called in to fix my nose. Bizarrely, it looks normal now. It looks beautiful now. Yeah. But I was real worried.
Camp: It looked beautiful before and it looks beautiful now.
Wilson: But you always hear of action, people getting banged up for real. And I’d had a bit of muscle soreness or whatever. We had to have a hot doctor.
Camp: We had a chiropractor come in, who was like a local guy from Savannah and he was like helping us.
Wilson: He was really hot.
Camp: He was pretty cute, yeah.
Wilson: But then the nose injury, I couldn’t believe it. It was basically a gun got whacked across my face accidentally. It was just a freak accident. So, I did earn a bit of my action stripes for that, but I would love to do more action in the future. You can’t not get hurt ’cause it is a bit risky.
Camp: Even if you have really great people who are trained on set, like there’s always opportunity for risk and just thank God nothing else happen. And your nose looks —
Wilson: Normal now.
Camp: Stunning.
Anna, there’s a hilarious scene early on in Bride Hard where there’s four male strippers. They’re in Viking attire. It’s so ridiculous and over the top. How do you even approach like filming that? Is that a weird scene to shoot? Is it fun? Is it easy? Is it weirdly difficult? I could see it going a million ways.
Camp: I did a lot of research for that, that scene. I went to a lot of strip clubs. I went to the Hollywood Man show. I just didn’t know what I was gonna be like.
Wilson: Really?
Camp: No, of course not. No. But I had been before. No, there’s no way to prepare yourself from getting smacked in the face by half naked Vikings. You just gotta like, throw yourself into it and just, you know, say yes to the moment.
Wilson: Can I just say those Vikings were from the Groundlings.
Camp: They were so funny. Very funny. They, they were improv and they were delightful and they, they kept checking in to see if I was okay. I was like, bring it on guys. So, yeah, it was really fun.
Bride Hard just reminded me how much I love seeing you two on screen together. That chemistry carries over so well from Pitch Perfect. When fans see this film, they’re gonna be dying to see more of you two together. So is there any update on a Pitch Perfect 4?
Wilson: I actually did a job with Kay Cannon, the original writer of Pitch Perfect. The other day. And we’ve been talking about it. She’s also got another project at Universal. So we are really hoping they have a couple scripts out there, but…
Camp: I would want Kay to write to write it.
Wilson: For sure. She knows us and our characters so well, and she’s so funny. So I feel like that it’s pretty close, but we don’t have anything definite.
Camp: But I know that we would all do it and I know that I would just be so excited to see what was happening to our characters, you know what I mean? Like, after all this time, like, what are we doing? What are we up to? Are people getting married? Are people having babies or, or what? So yeah.
Wilson: But there’s so much depth in our cast that, that you could do, you could do quite a lot of things.
Bride Hard will definitely hold people over until then.
Wilson: I’m working with Anna Kendrick on a water campaign for Splash Water right now. So I feel like…
Camp: We’re surrounded by Bellas. It’s still happening.
Wilson: We all hang out all the time anyway.
Camp: Yes. It’s so fun.
Wilson: So they should just put a camera on us and film us.
Wilson: We went to a renassiance fair. We just went for fun. If somebody had filmed that, that could have been a movie. Could have. It was like a Hangover type situation.
Camp: There was a limousine. It was like, there was a lot of champagne in the limousine. Then we got out of the limousine and it was like 105 degrees and we were all wearing Renaissance outfits and then she couldn’t, she went backed back to the limo to fall asleep and then I collapsed. Then I partied for like three more hours and got drenched with beer.
That’s the script.
Camp: That’s our real life.
Wilson: Yeah. That could be the pitch.
Thanks to Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp for taking the time to talk about Bride Hard.
