Ryan Reynolds’ ‘I Eat Poop’ Movie Announced, Director Revealed
Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort company is producing an I Eat Poop movie.
I Eat Poop: A Dung Beetle Story is a popular children’s book by Mark Pett. Published in 2021, it tells the story of an insect who learns to stand up for himself after being bullied for his culinary preferences.
What do we know about Ryan Reynolds’ I Eat Poop movie?
Per Deadline, the I Eat Poop movie comes from Paramount Animation. No casting for the movie has yet been announced, meaning it is not yet clear if Reynolds will be voicing a character in the film.
It is worth noting, however, that Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are producing I Eat Poop for Ampersand, and the two of them previously worked with Maximum Effort on 2022’s Spirited, which did star Reynolds alongside Will Ferrell. In fact, most of the films that Maximum Effort has so far made — a list that includes 2018’s Deadpool 2, 2021’s Free Guy, 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, and more — have starred Reynolds, meaning there’s at least a semi-decent chance he’ll have a role in the movie.
Josh Cooley is currently in talks to direct the picture. Cooley previously directed 2019’s Toy Story 4 and 2024’s Transformers One, while he’s also worked on other films such as 2007’s Ratatouille, 2009’s Up, 2015’s Inside Out, 2020’s Soul, and more.
A description of the I Eat Poop book reads, “Dougie has a secret: he’s not a ground beetle. He’s a dung beetle, and he loves eating poop. Dougie knows he should be proud. Dung beetles help process waste and do other extraordinary things! But Dougie also knows that if anyone at school saw his lunch, he’d be an outcast. One day, the lunchroom bugs out over a classmate eating poop, and Dougie must make a choice. Can he stand up for his friend―and for his true self?”
A release date for I Eat Poop has not yet been set.
