ParaNorman Theatrical Rerelease Date Set, Alongside New Halloween Short

LAIKA, Fathom Entertainment, and Trafalgar Releasing have announced the theatrical rerelease dates for the upcoming limited screenings of the acclaimed animated horror comedy ParaNorman. This comes after the record-breaking 15th anniversary rerelease of Coraline last year, which earned a worldwide gross of $56 million at the box office.

”Fathom is very pleased to extend our distribution partnership with LAIKA and bring the critically acclaimed ParaNorman back to US audiences this Halloween in both 2D and RealD 3D and with the exclusive consumer added value feature, ParaNorman: The Thrifting,” Fathom Entertainment boss Ray Nutt said in a statement. “Coraline consumers voted with their wallets last year, resulting in approximately 70% of the record-breaking $34M+ U.S. theatrical box office coming in 3D. ParaNorman is the ideal, spooky follow-up for audiences to enjoy on the big screen later this year.”

“Following the incredible global response to Coraline’s theatrical re-release, which surpassed its original box office run in some international markets, we’re thrilled to partner with LAIKA once again to bring ParaNorman back to the big screen this Fall,” added Trafalgar Releasing executive Kymberli Frueh. “ParaNorman is a visually stunning, emotionally resonant film that deserves to be experienced in theaters — both in 2D and in vividly remastered RealD 3D. We can’t wait for audiences around the world to rediscover this groundbreaking stop-motion classic.”

When is the ParaNorman theatrical rerelease date?

ParaNorman is officially returning to theaters in remastered 3D for an exclusive week-long Halloween run starting October 23 in international markets and October 25 in the U.S. Since its debut in 2012, the film has maintained a Certified Fresh rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.

In addition to the rerelease, fans will also be treated to a new ParaNorman short film, titled ParaNorman: The Thrifing, featuring the voices of Finn Wolfhard and Anna Kendrick, with the latter set to reprise her role as Norman’s older sister, Courtney Babcock. It is directed by LAIKA’s lead character designer Thibault LeClercq from a script written by Chris Butler, with Passion Pictures producing. Further details about its plot are still under wraps.

The 2012 animated horror comedy was directed by Sam Fell and Butler. It centers around a young boy who can see ghosts. The movie featured the voices of Kendrick, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Casey Affleck, Leslie Mann, John Goodman, Jodelle Ferland, Alex Borstein, Christoper Mintz-Plasse, and more.

“ParaNorman was a breakthrough film for LAIKA — emotionally rich, visually daring, and proudly weird in all the right ways,” LAIKA boss David Burke added. “Bringing it back to theaters in stunning remastered 3D, paired with a brand-new short film, is an invitation for audiences to rediscover the heart and humor of Norman’s world — or experience it for the first time. Today, horror has become a shared family ritual, and ParaNorman sits right at the intersection of spooky and meaningful. It’s the perfect ‘starter horror’ — a gateway into genre storytelling that’s as thoughtful as it is thrilling.”
