2 Fan-Favorite Wicked Actors Won’t Join Sequel’s Cast

While the recently released trailer for Wicked 2 has fans pumped for the epic conclusion to Jon M. Chu’s take on the hit Broadway show, they won’t be able to witness the return of two cast members in the much-awaited sequel. Kristin Chenoweth, who portrayed Glinda the Good Witch in the original play, has confirmed that she and Idina Menzel, who donned the mantle of the Wicked Witch in the same production, won’t come back for the upcoming Wicked: For Good feature. Although both of them did make a special appearance in 2024’s Wicked on the big screen, their return in the movie’s sequel has been ruled out.

Don’t expect Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel to join Wicked 2’s cast

During her recent appearance on the red carpet of the 78th Annual Tony Awards, Chenoweth told ExtraTV that she has no plans to return to Wicked: For Good. After confirming that Idina Menzel will also remain absent from the cast of Wicked 2, the veteran thespian noted that the duo has no qualms about taking their leave from the franchise.

While talking about whether she and Menzel will be joining Wicked 2’s cast, Kristin Chenoweth said, “We are not. But Idina and I feel really good about it. It’s their time. We had our moment, and we were very honored they included us, but it’s their turn.”

Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel etched their names into pop culture history after taking on the roles of Glinda and Elphaba in the original Wicked musical. The pair made a celebrated return to the franchise through 2024’s Wicked, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the lead roles. Chenoweth and Menzel only featured for a brief moment in the film, putting on an elegant performance after the arrival of Grande and Ervio’s characters in Emerald City.

As such, their appearances only served as clever easter eggs, rather than furthering the plot of the movie, which explains why the pair won’t feature in the cast roster for Wicked 2.

Wicked: For Good is currently on track to premiere in theaters on November 21, 2025.
