Justice League DCU Movie Teased by Superman’s David Corenswet & James Gunn
With James Gunn‘s Superman bringing the Man of Steel, Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, and Mister Terrific to the big screen, fans definitely believe that the movie will pave the way for the Justice League to assemble in a future DC Universe project.
Written and directed by Gunn, the Superman reboot will introduce audiences to a fully fleshed-out DCU as well as to David Corenswet‘s portrayal of the titular superhero. The movie will be followed by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Clayface in 2026, while features centered around Wonder Woman, Batman, The Authority, the Teen Titans, Sgt. Rock, and Swamp Thing remain in development.
With most of those aforementioned DC characters having been at one point part of a Justice League lineup, Gunn was asked by Entertainment Weekly during a recent interview if forming the iconic superhero team in the DCU was on his mind. “Of course, of course,” he responded, although he was quick to add that “there is no Justice League in this world… not yet.” The Superman writer-director, who is also co-CEO of DC Studios, was then asked if the Justice League was part of his larger plans for the first chapter in the DCU, to which Gunn slyly replied, “Sure.”
What did Superman’s David Corenswet say about a Justice League DCU movie?
As for Corenswet, he’s more than ready to reprise his role as Superman for a Justice League movie, but explained to EW why he isn’t ready to put too much thought into such an idea just yet. “I mean, that sounds awesome,” he said about his Superman leading the DCU’s Justice League team. “I don’t take it upon myself to think ahead in that kind of way, just because one would hate to get one’s hopes up about anything in particular and then have it go in another direction.”
The actor continued, “What I like to do is stay blissfully ignorant, and then when James tells me what’s going to happen, I get to have a wonderful surprise. So if Justice League is in the back of his mind, that sounds great to me. I’ll put it at the back of my mind and we’ll see what happens.”
The Justice League may not exist in the DCU yet, but marketing for Superman has revealed that a similarly-named superhero team will appear in the movie. Known as the Justice Gang, the Maxwell Lord-sponsored team will consist of Mister Terrific, Hawkgirl, and Green Lantern. Fans can see the team in action when Superman opens in theaters on July 11, 2025.
