Ballerina Box Office Opens Weaker Than John Wick 2, 3 & 4, Loses to Lilo & Stitch

With Ballerina and Lilo & Stitch leading the box office, their openings and staying power are drawing attention across the industry. While Ballerina starts ahead of the first John Wick, it falls short of later franchise entries. Meanwhile, Lilo & Stitch continues to dominate, crossing $335 million domestically.

Ballerina underperforms at box office

Ballerina, the John Wick spinoff starring Ana de Armas, earned $25 million domestically in its opening weekend across 3,409 theaters. Further, it had a global debut of $51 million.

While its opening surpasses the original John Wick (2014) debut of $14.4 million, it trails behind John Wick: Chapter 2 ($30.4M), Chapter 3 – Parabellum ($56.8M), and Chapter 4 ($73.8M). Lionsgate reported that Friday previews, including previews, totaled $10.65 million, followed by $8.2 million on Saturday (down 8.2%) and $6.1 million on Sunday. 

Audience exits were strong with a 93% Rotten Tomatoes audience score and a 79% “definite recommend” rating on PostTrak. The film skewed male at 63%, with 45% of viewers aged over 35. It played best in the South Central and Western regions, with AMC Burbank earning $72,000. (via Deadline)

The production cost was reportedly in the low $90 million range, with foreign presales covering 60–70% of the budget. Lionsgate invested around $45 million in domestic promotion.

Although tracking once suggested a $35M+ debut, the lack of a full Keanu Reeves presence may have impacted turnout.

Lilo & Stitch reaches close to $800 million

Disney’s Lilo & Stitch earned $32.5 million in its third weekend, bringing its domestic total to $335.8 million and global total to $772.6 million. The weekend breakdown included $9.3M on Friday, $13.1M Saturday, and $10.1M Sunday across 4,185 theaters.

The film opened with $146 million in late May and held strong despite a 47% third-weekend drop. It became the second film of 2025 to cross $300 million domestically, after A Minecraft Movie. Lilo & Stitch currently ranks as Disney’s top-grossing release of the year and the third-highest overall box office performer in 2025. It maintained the No. 1 spot for three consecutive weekends.
