Insidious 6 Cast Finds Its Female Lead, Ma 2 Director Set
More information about both Insidious 6 and Ma 2 have come to light, including the fact that Blumhouse is reportedly circling in on its female lead for Insidious 6, while Ma 2 may have found its director.
Who is in talks to star in Insidious 6?
According to a new report from Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider newsletter, the sixth entry in the iconic horror franchise is eyeing Haley Bennett (Magazine Dreams) to star in the movie. Bennett would act as the female lead for the film, which Sneider also previously reported to be directed by Jacob Chase.
The franchise first began with 2011’s Insidious, which was directed by James Wan. It was a major success, earning generally positive reviews from critics and audiences and scaring up just under $100 million at the box office. Its success not only helped revive Wan and writer Leigh Whannell’s careers, but also helped Blumhouse Productions to reach new heights.
Who is directing Ma 2?
Sneider’s newsletter also contained some news for the recently announced Ma 2. According to Sneider, Michael Showalter (The Idea of You) is close to finalizing talks to direct the sequel. So far, not a whole lot is known about the movie, other than Octavia Spencer will return in some capacity as the titular character.
The original movie was directed by Tate Taylor from a screenplay written by Scotty Landes. The cast also included Juliette Lewis, Diana Silvers, Corey Fogelmanis, Gianni Paolo, McKaley Miller, Luke Evans, Missi Pyle, Allison Janney, Dominic Burgess, and more. During its theatrical run, the movie earned a worldwide gross of over $61 million. Despite initially receiving mixed reviews, the first installment went to receive a cult following.
“A lonely middle-aged woman befriends some teenagers and decides to let them party in the basement of her home. But there are some house rules: One of the kids has to stay sober, don’t curse, and never go upstairs,” reads the original movie’s synopsis. “They must also refer to her as Ma. But as Ma’s hospitality starts to curdle into obsession, what began as a teenage dream turns into a terrorizing nightmare, and Ma’s place goes from the best place in town to the worst place on Earth.”
