It was reported back in 2024 that Atwell is expected to reprise her role as Peggy Carter in Avengers: Doomsday. However, when the viral livestream casting announcement laid out a number of names involved in the upcoming crossover movie, Atwell’s name was noticeably absent. That, of course, did not only question the validity of previous reports but also slightly diminished hopes of Atwell ever returning as Agent Carter.

Despite uncertainties, the internet suggests Atwell is still very much a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that she might appear as Peggy Carter once again in Avengers: Doomsday. The actress sat down with Collider to discuss Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. When asked whether the Doomsday casting rumors were true, Atwell responded with a question, saying, “Really? What? Who? On Reddit? Who’s doing that? Who is saying that?”
The interviewer then said “the internet,” to which the actress countered: “Oh, that reliable source.” Atwell did not specifically confirm anything, though she shared that she is also uncertain herself.
“Well, now I don’t know, because apparently the internet says I am. Yeah, I wish them well. I mean, it’s such a huge, huge franchise. They’re incredible,” said Atwell, adding that she “have no control” over Marvel’s decision.

The actress played the Peggy Carter character in various Marvel projects, including Captain America: The First Avenger, Agent Carter, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, Avengers: Endgame, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
