Superman Runtime Revealed for James Gunn’s DCU Movie

The runtime for Superman has been revealed.

Superman releases in United States theaters this coming July. Written and directed by James Gunn, the DCU movie stars David Corenswet as the titular superhero while Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane.

What is the runtime of Superman?

While there have been many rumors floating around regarding what the runtime of Gunn’s Superman movie may be, X account DCFilmsNews is now reporting that, according to “international distributors” who have “just received the update,” it will be 2 hours and 2 minutes, or 122 minutes, long.

This makes it the second shortest Superman movie to date, following Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, which came in at 90 minutes.

Both the 1978 Richard Donner Superman movie and Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel had a runtime of 143 minutes. Superman II came in at 127 minutes (the Donner Cut was slightly shorter at 116 minutes), while Superman III was 125 minutes long. Superman Returns, which was released in 2006, was 154 minutes long, while the theatrical cut of Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was 152 minutes.

“Superman, DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures,” the official synopsis reads. “In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.”

The cast of the movie also includes Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Neva Howell, Beck Bennett, and more.

Superman will be released in United States theaters and IMAX on July 11, 2025, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
