Mission: Impossible 8 opened to a franchise-best $63 million domestic from Friday to Sunday and a $77 million haul over the four-day Memorial Day weekend. Overall, the latest Mission: Impossible pulled in an impressive $190 million worldwide.

Mission: Impossible 8’s gross combined with Lilo & Stitch‘s opening haul and the other holdovers, including Final Destination Bloodline, set the new Memorial Day weekend box office. Tom Cruise, the star of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, posted a heartfelt thank you on his social media.

As a champion of the theatrical experience, Cruise thanked the audience and every creative member for making this past weekend a giant success.

In Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, Cruise plays Ethan Hunt in what could be his final appearance as the iconic IMF agent. With the cruciform key in his possession, Ethan and his team must find the sunken Russian submarine Sevastopol, which will lead them to the rogue AI known as the Entity. Ethan must destroy the Entity before it leads to nuclear war.

Christopher McQuarrie directs Mission: Impossible 8 from a screenplay he co-wrote with Erik Jendresen.
