Fans React to Avengers: Doomsday & Secret Wars’ Release Date Changes

Avengers: Doomsday fans aren’t happy about the film’s latest delay. A new release date pushes the movie from May 2026 to December 2026, sparking frustration across social media. While Marvel Studios hasn’t addressed the backlash, the seven-month delay has fueled speculation and disappointment. More reactions are surfacing as fans process the shift in the Multiverse Saga timeline.

Marvel fans are not happy with Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars’ new release dates

Marvel Studios has officially delayed the release of its next two Avengers films. Avengers: Doomsday has moved from May 1, 2026, to December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars from May 7, 2027, to December 17, 2027. Disney confirmed the shift on May 22, 2025.

According to Deadline, Disney insiders cited the massive scale of the two films as the reason for the delay, explaining the need for extended production and post-production timelines. Filming for Doomsday began in April 2025 in the UK, with both movies set to close out the Multiverse Saga.

The new December dates reflect Marvel’s past success. Spider-Man: No Way Home opened on December 17, 2021, and earned $1.92 billion worldwide. Marvel Studios is aiming to replicate this by targeting the holiday box office window, home to top earners like Avatar, Titanic, and The Force Awakens.

On social media, fans expressed frustration over the delays. One user wrote, “THEY PUSHED AVENGERS DOOMSDAY TO DECEMBER 2026 GIVE ME A GUN STOP.”

Another noted, “I’m going to be close to being 40 years old by then.” Others pointed out the crowded holiday release window, as Doomsday will open against Ice Age 6, Dune: Messiah, and Shrek 5.

The cast of Avengers: Doomsday includes Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, with appearances by Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Mackie, and Florence Pugh, among others. Marvel confirmed returning characters from Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool & Wolverine.

Secret Wars is expected to mirror Doomsday in cast size and multiverse scale. Marvel President Kevin Feige reportedly stated that more cast announcements will follow at San Diego Comic-Con in July.
