With Final Destination Bloodlines storming into theaters, its franchise-best opening has reshaped the current box office landscape. The film’s debut performance eclipses earlier entries in the 25-year-old horror series. As Thunderbolts* and Sinners continue their theatrical runs, Bloodlines has emerged as a major force, prompting fresh comparisons across franchises and release strategies.

The R-rated horror movie, helmed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, marked the highest-grossing debut in the 25-year-old franchise. Released in over 3,500 theaters across North America, the film had a $21 million opening day and a 3-day weekend total of $51 million.

This movie’s debut surpasses the previous record holder, The Final Destination (2009), which opened with $27.4 million and grossed around $186 million globally. Earlier franchise entries opened with lower numbers: Final Destination (2000) earned $10 million, Final Destination 2 opened at $16 million, Final Destination 3 at $20 million, and Final Destination 5 at $18 million.

According to Deadline, early tracking had estimated Bloodlines to open between $35–40 million domestically and $70 million worldwide. The film outperformed those expectations. Preview screenings on Thursday reportedly brought in $5.5 million.

The film saw strong fan turnout, especially among the 25–34 age demographic, with the film skewing 52% male. The film received a B+ CinemaScore and a 4-star PostTrak audience score, with 69% of viewers recommending it. (via Deadline)

Meanwhile, Disney and Marvel’s Thunderbolts* took in $15.5 million in its third weekend in North America, bringing its domestic earnings to $155.4 million and its worldwide total to $325.7 million. In comparison, Warner Bros.’ Sinners grossed $15 million in its fifth weekend, reaching around $240 million domestically and a global total of $314.6 million.

Notably, Bloodlines is Warner Bros.’ fourth No. 1 domestic debut of 2025, following Mickey 17, A Minecraft Movie, and Sinners.
