Clayface Taps New Writer to Work on Mike Flanagan’s DCU Movie Script

The writer who is rewriting Mike Flanagan’s Clayface script has been revealed.

Clayface is a new DCU movie arriving in 2026. The first version of the script was written by Flanagan, who is known for making Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House, among other titles.

In March 2025, Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider reported that a new writer had been brought on board Clayface to do “a significant pass on Mike Flanagan’s script.” The writer, however, was not named in the story, meaning it was unclear who was working on it until now.

Who is rewriting the Clayface script?

Hossein Amini is now rewriting the Clayface script, according to TheWrap.

Amini is known for writing 2011’s Drive. His filmography as a writer also includes 1996’s Jude, 1997’s The Wings of the Dove, 2002’s The Four Feathers, 2008’s Killshot, 2010’s Shanghai, 2012’s Snow White and the Huntsman, 2013’s 47 Ronin, 2016’s Our Kind of Traitor, and 2017’s The Snowman. Additionally, he was an uncredited writer on 2002’s Gangs of New York and both wrote and directed 2014’s The Two Faces of January.

In television, Amini has written episodes of McMafia, The Alienist, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Production on Clayface is expected to begin this coming October in the United Kingdom. The Batman’s Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris are both producing the movie, while James Watkins is directing. Watkins’ previous filmography includes 2008’s Eden Lake, 2012’s The Woman in Black, 2016’s Bastille Day, and 2024’s Speak No Evil.

No casting for the Clayface movie has yet been announced; although, James Gunn has previously said that the titular Batman villain won’t be played by Alan Tudyk, who voiced the character in the animated Creature Commandos show.

Clayface will be released in United States theaters on September 11, 2026, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
