Splitsville Release Date Set for Dakota Johnson Comedy Movie

Neon has announced the Splitsville release date for the upcoming marriage comedy led by How to Be Single star Dakota Johnson. In addition to starring, Johnson is also serving as a producer.

Johnson will also next be seen in A24’s upcoming romantic comedy Materialists, which will also be led by Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal. She is also attached to star opposite Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett in the upcoming crime drama titled, Verity, based on Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name.

When is the Splitsville release date?

Splitsville has now been scheduled to arrive in theaters on August 22, 2025, pitting it directly against Ethan Coen’s newest Margaret Qualley-led comedy movie Honey Don’t. It will also be debuting in the same month as high-profile movies like Weapons, Freakier Friday, Nobody 2, and Caught Stealing. Prior to its theatrical release, the movie will be having its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival this month.

“When Ashley asks for a divorce, the good-natured Carey runs to his friends, Julie and Paul, for support,” reads the synopsis. “Their secret to happiness is an open marriage; that is, until Carey crosses the line and throws all of their relationships into chaos.”

Besides Johnson, the cast also includes Michael Angelo Covino, Adria Arjona, Kyle Marvin, Nicholas Braun, David CastaƱeda, O-T Fagbenle, Charlie Gillespie, and more. It is directed by Covino, who co-wrote the screenplay with Kyle Marvin. The creative team also includes editor Sara Shaw and cinematographer Adam Newport-Berra. The movie is produced by Covino, Ro Donnelly, Ryan Heller, Emily Korteweg, Marvin, and Samantha Racanelli, with Paul Barbeau and Adam Paulsen executive producing.
