Superman: Edi Gathegi & James Gunn Featured in New Photo for DCU Movie

James Gunn has shared a new behind-the-scenes image from the set of Superman.

Superman opens in United States theaters this coming July. The DCU movie, which is written and directed by Gunn, stars David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane.

Edi Gathegi, meanwhile, plays Michael Holt/Mister Terrific in the movie. On Bluesky, Gunn shared a new, behind-the-scenes photo of himself standing next to Gathegi on the set of Superman.

What did James Gunn say about Superman and Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific?

“Happy Anniversary to Mr. Terrific, who has long been one of my favorite characters – it’s been a joy bringing him to the big screen for the first time with my pal Edi Gathegi,” Gunn wrote. “#Superman is in theaters July 11.”

Superman also stars Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and Terence Rosemore as Otis.

Bennett told ComingSoon about Superman in a recent interview, “If you know [Steve] at all from reading about him online or the comic books, he’s an adversary for Clark Kent at The Daily Planet. They work together, he’s a sports writer there. He’s kind of a little bit of an adversary for everybody. He doesn’t really have a filter. He has strong opinions. With Steve Lombard, a defining trait of him — by one of the creators or writers of the early Superman comics, he was described as ‘a run-through character.’ Where you can run him through a scene and you know you’re going to get a positive response, a fun response, or a laugh. He’s a character where, when you see him, you know what to expect, you know he’s going to be overly confident and then kind of fall flat on his face and get embarrassed. It’s really fun to play a character who is so cocky and just always ends up getting his comeuppance.”

Superman will be released in United States theaters on July 11, 2025.
