Rachel Zegler Is Marisa Tomei’s Daughter in Comedy She Gets It From Me

Fresh off playing the stepdaughter of a vain and jealous Evil Queen in Snow White, Rachel Zegler is taking on her next role — this time as the daughter of a former punk rocker in the planned comedy drama She Gets It From Me. 

Zegler will star as Nicky alongside Marisa Tomei, who plays her wild birth mother, Charlotte. The film will be directed by And Tomorrow the Entire World and Treasure filmmaker Julia von Heinz. Jay Reiss also wrote the script.

What is She Gets It From Me about? 

According to Variety, She Gets It From Me is based on a true story centering on Nicky, “whose engagement celebration turns into a search for her pill-popping, ex-punk rocker birth mother, Charlotte . Together, the two embark on an anarchic mother-and-daughter journey to reconnect.”

“The emotional truth of the movie, reflecting parts of all our lives, is truly funny, immersive cinema,” von Heinz said in a statement shared by the outlet. “Jay’s screenplay captures family dynamics at their most authentic: absurd yet profound, messy yet meaningful. The collision of two worlds creates comedy that cuts deep because it’s so honest.”

Zegler, who rose to fame with her breakout role in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, has starred in a number of high-profile projects including The Hunger Games: Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes as Lucy Gray Baird, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods as Anthea, and — most recently — the live-action reimagining of Snow White as the titular princess. Zegler’s other notable credits include Y2K and Spellbound. 

Tomei is an Oscar winner known for her roles in My Cousin Vinny, Chaplin, In The Bedroom, Slums of Beverly Hills, Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, Happy Accidents, The Wrestler, The Lincoln Lawyer, and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home).
