Thunderbolts*’ David Harbour on Where Rachel Weisz’s Melina Is in MCU

Ever since Rachel Weisz made her MCU debut in 2021’s Black Widow as Melina Vostokoff, fans have wondered whether she would return. While Scarlett Johansson bid goodbye to her Marvel role, and David Harbour, Olga Kurylenko, and Florence Pugh set to reprise their roles from the film in the upcoming Thunderbolts*, Melina’s current whereabouts in the MCU are still unknown. However, Harbour, who plays MCU’s Red Guardian, has now shared his thoughts on the future of Weisz’s character.

Thunderbolts*’ David Harbour has talked to Marvel about Rachel Weisz’s return as Melina

In a recent discussion, the Thunderbolts* star noted that it is still possible for Weisz’s Melina to return to the MCU in the near future. Harbour also mentioned that he has had conversations with Marvel executives regarding his Black Widow co-star’s comeback.

While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter during the Thunderbolts* press tour, the 50-year-old actor stated, “I’ve talked to [Marvel] people about Melina, and I think there’s still very much potential for Melina.”

The conclusion of Black Widow saw Yelena, Melina, and Alexei take over the responsibility of the Red Room’s Widows, giving fans the hope of seeing Harbour and Weisz’s characters again in later installments. Harbour, in his latest interview, validated these speculations by disclosing a deleted sequence from Black Widow, noting, “There was a beautiful [deleted] scene with me and Rachel [kissing] after the crash. I touch her face and everything. It was one of my favorite moments from that movie.”

The Red Guardian actor said that he believes fans may see Melina again, if not in Thunderbolts*, then in another MCU project, by adding, “I do think that there’s potential for Melina’s reemergence in some kind of interesting way, and I would love to have her back in Alexei’s life. She would add such an interesting complexity.”

Marvel Studios has yet to share any official word regarding the future of Rachel Weisz’s Melina Vostokoff. In the meantime, fans can see other returning cast members from Black Widow in the latest MCU movie, Thunderbolts*, which premieres in theaters on May 2, 2026.
