Thunderbolts* Sentry Actor Lewis Pullman on Why Playing Bob Was ‘More Difficult’

With the release date for Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* just around the corner, actor Lewis Pullman has reflected on playing the character Bob and his alter-ego, Sentry, in the film. Pullman, who is making his MCU debut in Thunderbolts*, noted that he found it harder to play Bob than the god-like Sentry, who has largely been shrouded in mystery in the film’s marketing.

Lewis Pullman reveals the differences between Bob and Sentry in Thunderbolts*

In a recent interview, Lewis Pullman was questioned about his preparation for his role as Sentry. Pullman replied by saying that he actually found stepping into Bob’s shoes to be more challenging.

While speaking with Phase Hero podcast host Brandon Davis about his experience on Thunderbolts*, Lewis Pullman explained why playing Bob was harder than portraying Sentry. “It’s the reverse that’s the more difficult part. I definitely relate to Bob with his impostor syndrome qualities.” He then added, “I think Bob really has a journey of believing in himself and believing that he is of worth and that he actually is in control of things. So, I think that was the more challenging part to kind of take the leap towards.”

Lewis Pullman also noted how Bob’s character in Thunderbolts* was a fair reflection of his first time acting in a Marvel project. “In many ways, that reflected my whole experience of being part of a Marvel movie…convincing myself every morning [that] I should be here and I could do this. It was a good, very meta experience,” the actor clarified.

While Thunderbolts* will mark Lewis Pullman’s first appearance in the MCU, Marvel Studios has already confirmed his involvement in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday.

Thunderbolts* arrives in theaters on May 2, 2025. Reviews from the film’s early screenings have already come out, with critics praising the film’s dark tone and the ensemble cast’s chemistry.
