How Thunderbolts*’ Lewis Pullman Found Out Sentry Is in Avengers: Doomsday
Lewis Pullman recently revealed how he learned about Sentry’s return in Avengers: Doomsday. The Thunderbolts* star shared the surprising way he got the news and reflected on his excitement to reprise the powerful Marvel role. His comments offer insight into the character’s growing presence in the MCU.
Lewis Pullman says his Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement was news to him
Deadline spoke with Lewis Pullman, who revealed he found out about his return as Sentry in Avengers: Doomsday through co-star Danny Ramirez. “I had like 30 missed calls from him when I was shooting, and I was like, ‘What the heck could have happened?!’ He broke the news to me in a great way,” Pullman said.
Pullman also stated, “I wish I had stuff to say, I’d happily leak it. I haven’t heard a…thing about it — but I’m excited that I’m a part of it, that was news to me.” He is set to debut as Sentry in Thunderbolts*, set to release before Avengers: Doomsday.
Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee introduced Sentry in 2000 as Bob Reynolds, a man who erases the world’s memory of his superhero identity — and his own. With “the power of a million exploding suns,” Sentry enters the MCU as a character set to shift its power dynamics.
One teaser describes him as “stronger than all the Avengers rolled into one,” highlighting his significance. Jake Schreier, director of Thunderbolts*, hinted that Sentry’s character could play a foundational role in the events of Avengers: Doomsday.
Thunderbolts* concludes Marvel’s Phase 5, while Avengers: Doomsday, releasing May 1, 2026, will be part of Phase 6. Doomsday will unite heroes from the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four, with the Russo Brothers returning to direct. Pullman’s casting aligns with Marvel’s plan to integrate major characters across phases through pivotal crossover events.
