The actor asserted that the movie helped him prioritize “character over spectacle” and stated, “I learned all the most amazing lessons I could ever have in the creative space from that movie.”
Reynolds revealed that he made suggestions to the makers of the movie during its making. He added, “On that film, I saw a lot of money being spent on special effects, all sorts of stuff. And I remember suggesting, ‘Why don’t we write like a scene the way people would talk? I don’t know, it could be a fun exchange of dialogue that all doesn’t cost anything?'”
Green Lantern was directed by Martin Campbell. The film also featured Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, and many other stars besides Reynolds. Made on a huge budget of $200 million, the movie was able to make only $237 million at the box office. It also wasn’t received well by audiences.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Green Lantern has a rating of 25 percent on the Tomatometer and 45 percent on the Popcornmeter.
Reynolds’ time as Green Lantern did not extend beyond that one movie. Now, actors Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler are all set to make their debut in the upcoming DC series Lanterns. They will play John Stewart and Hal Jordan, respectively.
