Avengers: Doomsday: Ryan Reynolds on Deadpool’s Potential Appearance

Ryan Reynolds appeared at the 2025 Time 100 Summit on Wednesday, April 23, and addressed the prospects of his involvement in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Last month, Marvel Studios announced over 20 members of the Doomsday cast, but Reynolds and his character Deadpool weren’t mentioned among them.

However, earlier this month, Marvel boss Kevin Feige clarified at CinemaCon that the Doomsday cast list isn’t complete, raising hopes among fans that Reynolds might appear in Avengers 5.

Ryan Reynolds talks Deadpool’s possible return in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars

Ryan Reynolds was almost inevitably asked about his involvement in Doomsday and Secret Wars during his appearance at this year’s Time 100 Summit. The Spirited actor was in a discussion with TIME correspondent Eliana Dockterman for a Business of Creativity panel. Toward its end, Dockterman asked whether Deadpool could appear in one of the upcoming Marvel movies as a supporting character.

“I do think so,” Reynolds said briefly, before veering toward recounting his experience filming the Deadpool movies after the character failed to garner positive reviews in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009).

Released in 2016, the first Deadpool film was a critical and commercial hit, leading to the development of Deadpool 2, which came out in 2018. The most recent entry in the film series, Deadpool & Wolverine, premiered in 2024 and introduced Reynolds’ character and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As with Reynolds, Jackman wasn’t named among the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. However, their fellow Deadpool & Wolverine cast member, Channing Tatum (who played Remy LeBeau / Gambit), was mentioned.

The cast also includes Jackman’s co-workers from Fox’s X-Men movies, including Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Kelsey Grammer (Beast).
