The Mandalorian Director Hypes up Grogu Movie, Teases Mace Windu Project

The Mandalorian & Grogu director Bryce Dallas Howard recently shared her excitement about the upcoming Star Wars feature. The filmmaker also teased a Mace Windu project with Samuel L Jackson. Howard has been associated with Star Wars as the director of a few episodes of the Disney+ show, The Mandalorian, and one episode of the miniseries, The Book of Boba Fett.

Bryce Dallas Howard excites fans for The Mandalorian & Grogu

Director Bryce Dallas Howard recently sat down for an interview with Josh Horowitz on his podcast Happy, Sad, Confused. During the interview, Horowitz asked Howard if she had ever “raised” her hand to work on a Star Wars feature and talked to Jon Favreau and Kathleen Kennedy. To this, she responded that she “would always say yes” to working on a feature.

She then jumped on to talk about the Pedro Pascal film and said, “I’m excited to see The Mandalorian & Grogu with Jon Favreau. I got to visit set. It’s awesome. It’s gonna be fantastic.” Howard further asserted that it is “thrilling” to witness Favreau turning The Mandalorian show into “a theatrical experience.”

Howard teases a Mace Windu project with Samuel L. Jackson

Later in the interview, Horowitz asked Howard if she had a list of particular actors she was willing to work with. As she listed down Chris Pratt as one of her favorites, Howard stated that she would love to direct Samuel L. Jackson.

Howard shared, “Sam Jackson has been incredibly supportive of me and has told me many times that he would act in something that I directed.” She stated that she communicated with the Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm, Dave Filoni, about a Mace Windu project, after Jackson’s request. She added, “I, like, went straight to Dave Filoni and I was like, so let’s just talk about Mace Windu and where he is. We just talk about this because is he dead, is he?”

Mace Windu is a Jedi master, who was portrayed by Jackson in the Star Wars prequel trilogy by George Lucas. While fans believed Windu was dead after his arm was cut off in Star Wars: Episode III, and he was thrown off a building, Jackson confirmed in February 2024 in an interview with Empire, “HE’S NOT DEAD!!!” The actor also conveyed that he would be willing to play the character again if a Mace Windu project is made.
