Keanu Reeves in Talks to Join Cast of Triangle of Sadness Director’s New Movie

Keanu Reeves is in talks to join the cast of Ruben Östlund’s new movie, The Entertainment System Is Down.

Per Variety, Reeves is currently in talks to star in The Entertainment System Is Down, which is directed by Östlund.

What is The Entertainment System Is Down about?

While specific plot details remain under wraps at this time, Östlund told Variety in 2022 that the film “takes place on a long haul flight. And quite soon after take-off, the crew of the flight is telling the passengers that the entertainment system is down. They are now stuck on a 15 or 17-hour-long flight without any digital entertainment. They don’t have the screens that we are so used to in our contemporary world. So it’s going to be like a study of how human beings interact in this little laboratory that is a plane. It will look at how modern human beings are wrecked under these circumstances.”

He added, “Air rage is a term that is used when a passenger becomes so violent that they have to proceed with an emergency landing of a flight. I read a study about it and they found out that when economy passengers are boarding through business clause or first class, the risk of average is increased by four times. It’s super interesting fact because it says so much about something that is true, that inequality is provoking us, inequality is making us frustrated. And if we see if you are confronted with inequality, I think also there’s a risk in our society that it will provoke rages.”

Östlund is known for 2017’s The Square and 2022’s Triangle of Sadness, both of which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. He’s also directed 2004’s The Guitar Mongoloid, 2008’s Involuntary, 2011’s Play, and 2014’s Force Majeure.

It was recently announced that Reeves will be voicing Shadow the Hedgehog in 2024’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3. He’s also reprising his role as John Wick alongside Ana de Armas in John Wick Presents: Ballerina, which releases in June 2025.

The Entertainment System Is Down does not yet have a release date.
