Man of Tomorrow: James Gunn Shares Surprising News About DCU Movie’s Current Status
James Gunn has officially pulled back the curtain on the production status of Man of Tomorrow. He delivered a major update regarding the upcoming DC Universe sequel while shutting down a fresh wave of online misinformation.
After a fan expressed frustration over the spread of fake DCU rumors, Gunn stepped in to set the record straight. On Threads, the fan pointed to a rumor claiming that Man of Tomorrow had received a poor test-screening response due to its dark ending and the death of a beloved hero.
Gunn replied to them and mentioned that it’s not true at all. Additionally, he also revealed that an early director’s cut of the movie now exists. In fact, it’s ready to watch, but not for everyone.

Peter Safran gets an early look at James Gunn’s first director’s cut
Gunn confirmed that he is screening the initial cut of Man of Tomorrow for fellow DC Studios co-head Peter Safran, noting that Safran is getting a look at the project roughly a month ahead of schedule.
The latest update on the DCU movie comes a day after Gunn offered his response on a potential trailer. During the red carpet premiere of Clayface, he was asked whether fans can expect Man of Tomorrow’s footage anytime soon. He laughed and said, “No.”
Besides David Corenswet in the lead role, the film will also bring back Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Superman and his archnemesis will be seen forming an unlikely alliance despite their rivalry in the first installment. They will fight together against a new supervillain Brainiac. Played by Lars Eidinger, the character will make his live-action debut in a DC title.
Other returning cast members include Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Milly Alcock as Supergirl, and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. Popular actress Adria Arjona will also appear in a pivotal role, though details about her character remain under wraps.
Man of Tomorrow will hit the theaters on July 9, 2027.
