Harry Potter: Tom Felton’s Recent Return Gives Beloved Sequel Project a Massive Boost

Tom Felton‘s Draco Malfoy return was a box-office game-changer. The actor’s comeback gave the beloved Harry Potter sequel a huge boost at theatres. The actor came back after a week off to the popular stage play.

According to Broadway League listings, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has grossed more than $1.57 million in the week ending September 27. The previous week collected more than $906,000, an increase of over $607,000 after Felton returned to his iconic role.

The timing is also significant here, as the jump occurred during a rough time. Total Broadway grosses fell 11% to over $24 million, in contrast to $27 million the week before. Attendance also dropped 11% to 209, 194. Deadline noted that a soggy Nor’easter weekend hit New York, which may have reduced footfall.

No other show saw a week-over-week jump like Cursed Child

Only three of the 26 productions on Broadway grossed more than the previous week. Cursed Child holds the top spot by the largest gain.

School Girls; Or the African Mean Girls Play was also up from the previous week. It grossed over $322,000, a $34,290 increase after playing eight previews. Paranormal Activity grossed $871,364, up $85,939.

However, Cursed Child stood out. The play ranked among Broadway’s top earners for the week, finishing behind Hamilton and The Lion King.

The play made its Broadway debut in 2018 following its premiere in London’s West End. The stage production originally featured a two-part format before being reworked as a single performance after the pandemic for about three and a half hours.

Felton reprised his movie role in the Broadway stage play in November 2025 and has been continuing it to date. After positive reception, the actor extended his schedule till January 3, 2027.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is playing at the Lyric Theatre, with tickets starting from $74.24.
