Obsession Director’s New Horror Movie Anything But Ghosts Sets Release Date
It won’t be long before Obsession fans get to see director Curry Barker’s next film in theaters. Focus Features and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster have officially announced a release date for Barker‘s upcoming horror-comedy Anything But Ghosts. The film will arrive in theaters on May 7, 2027.
Focus will retain worldwide rights for the film, while Universal Pictures International will handle international distribution. Unlike Obsession, the film will star Barker in a lead role himself, joined by his frequent collaborator Cooper Tomlinson. The film was previously described by Tomlinson as “if Key & Peele walked into Hereditary.” Elsewhere, in an interview with ComingSoon, Tomlinson stated that the film would be “a little more humorous,” comparing its tone to Apple TV+’s Widow’s Bay.
Barker and Tomlinson announced the news on social media with a new video. In it, the two can be seen sitting in front of an editing bay with a vague still from the film.
What else do we know about Anything But Ghosts?
Anything But Ghosts will follow the duo as “wannabe ‘ghosthunters’ who find themselves in over their heads as things spiral wildly and terrifyingly out of control,” revealed by the synopsis.
Besides Barker and Tomlinson, the film also stars Violet McGraw, Chris Reinacher, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Aaron Paul. Barker will direct the film from a screenplay co-written by him and Tomlinson. It will be produced by Jason Blum, Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Adam Hendricks, and Greg Gilreath, in association with Image Nation and That’s a Bad Idea. Daniel Bekerman, Curry Barker, Cooper Tomlinson, and Image Nation’s Ben Ross serve as executive producers.
Tomlinson previously played Ian, a friend of the lead stars, in Obsession. Made on a budget of less than $1 million, the film broke box office records by grossing over $519 million worldwide. In a hilarious turn of events, it also inspired a comedic “spin-off” promo trailer featuring T-Pain. Anything But Ghosts will also include a direct reference to the events of Obsession.
