Man of Tomorrow’s James Gunn Reveals if DCU Fans Will Ever See a Superman Director’s Cut
James Gunn has recently provided an update on a potential Superman director’s cut. The latest Superman movie, featuring David Corenswet as the Kryptonian superhero, was released in 2025.
For some time now, fans have been speculating about whether there will be a director’s cut for the 2025 project. In a recent post on Threads, a fan, @solocelo, asked Gunn, “@jamesgunn, is there a director’s cut of Superman? So curious.”
The CEO of DC Studios replied, saying, “Yes! The one that was in theaters!”
Gunn’s response appears to rule out a future separate version of the movie. His reaction to the question suggests that the final product was exactly how he envisioned Superman would turn out. Hence, there is no need for any additional releases.
Superman returns to theaters next year in Man of Tomorrow
James Gunn’s 2025 film Superman introduced David Corenswet as the titular character. The plot revolved around Clark Kent as he tried to confront his Kryptonian heritage and embrace his human upbringing. He faced the famous DC villain Lex Luthor in the film. The movie was a box-office success, grossing a worldwide total of $618.7 million.
Gunn’s upcoming DC Universe film, Man of Tomorrow, will reportedly see Superman and his arch-rival form an alliance as they face a massive planetary threat from the alien cyborg Brainiac.
While plot details are still under wraps, the synopsis for Man of Tomorrow on IMDb reads, “A new threat arrives that requires Superman and Lex Luthor to work together to overcome it.”
The movie casts Milly Alcock as Supergirl and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen. Nicholas Hoult and David Corenswet will reprise their roles as Lex Luthor and Superman. Aaron Pierre and Nathan Fillion will play Green Lanterns John Stewart and Guy Gardner, respectively.
Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
