The expedition unknowingly enters the territory of the mythical Boiúna, a massive serpent that begins hunting the group. Keeping a creature partially hidden can build suspense, but several reviews argue that Beware Boiúna takes that approach too far.

RogerEbert‘s Brian Tallerico highlighted the issue, describing it as a giant snake movie that rarely allows audiences to see the snake properly. Other reviews similarly noted that the editing and cinematography make the creature difficult to follow during its major attack sequences.

The criticism is particularly notable because the film belongs to a genre built around large-scale monster encounters. Viewers expecting extended shots of the Boiúna may instead find that the movie emphasizes suspense and atmosphere over clearly presented creature action.
