Anne Hathaway Isn’t Allowed to Appear on Hot Ones Despite Having 5 Movies This Year, Here’s Why

Anne Hathaway has five movies arriving across 2026. Her latest project, Verity, also features a fictional appearance on the popular web interview series Hot Ones.

However, Hathaway has now explained why she could not make that appearance in real life. While speaking on the Talk of the Townsends podcast, the Oscar winner said she had planned to take on the Hot Ones challenge while promoting Verity, but her pregnancy changed those plans. 

“And then I thought that I was gonna be able to do the Hot Ones challenge to do press for this film because it just made sense,” Hathaway explained. “But then I got pregnant, and my doctor said I couldn’t do it because I might go into early labor. So I still haven’t done the gauntlet yet..I’m not sure when that’s gonna happen.”

She added that she still hopes to complete the challenge, possibly next year.

The real-life Hot Ones appearance would have fit because the show is part of Verity’s story and fictional press tour. Hathaway plays Verity Crawford, a thriller writer whose life becomes the center of a mystery after she is left paralyzed in a car accident. 

Dakota Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired to complete Verity’s unfinished book series, while Josh Hartnett plays Verity’s husband, Jeremy.

Hathaway shares more about promoting Verity during pregnancy

Hathaway also explained that she filmed the Hot Ones sequence for Verity. While playing Verity, she “did the first three wings for real, and then I switched to dummy wings.”

The fictional interview was one of several media appearances Hathaway suggested for her character.

Hathaway said she wanted Verity to appear established as an important cultural figure. She suggested adding interviews with Gayle King and Hot Ones, describing the combination as a “triple crown trifecta.”

Hathaway announced her pregnancy with husband Adam Shulman in June. They are already parents to two sons. Her current film slate includes Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Odyssey, The End of Oak Street, and Verity, making the latter her fifth movie release of 2026.

Verity, directed by Michael Showalter and adapted from Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, is scheduled to hit the theaters on October 2, 2026. Hathaway has not yet completed the real Hot Ones challenge.
