Whoopi Goldberg & Michelle Obama’s New Netflix Movie Adds Greg Tarzan Davis & 8 More to Cast

Netflix‘s upcoming movie starring Whoopi Goldberg has welcomed several new cast additions. Former First Lady Michelle Obama serves as an executive producer on the upcoming movie.

According to Deadline, the Netflix film Women Like Us has added nine actors to its cast. The additions are Greg Tarzan Davis, Melanie Liburd, Harry Lennix, Joy Bryant, Danielle Pinnock, Dewayne Perkins, Samara Joy, Tiffany Boone, and Gail Bean.

Meanwhile, the lead cast of Women Like Us includes Whoopi Goldberg, Vivica A. Fox, Vanessa Williams, and Jenifer Lewis. Character details of all the cast members remain under wraps for now.

What we know about Netflix’s Women Like Us so far

Women Like Us follows a woman navigating life after a recent divorce. Her sister and lifelong best friends take her to the Hamptons for a cozy getaway on what should have been her 30th marriage anniversary. The weekend becomes a reckoning with grief, marriage, and the sisterhood that has carried them through the years. Together, they also come to realize that it’s never too late to dream again.

Tasha Smith will direct the film from a screenplay by Ali Kinney, with additional writing by Tracy Oliver. The film comes from the Obamas’ Higher Ground and Charles D. King’s Macro Film Studios.

Macro’s James Lopez and Poppy Hanks are producing, while the company’s founder King is executive producing. Meanwhile, Michelle Obama is also serving as executive producer from Higher Ground, under which Anikah McLaren and Mark R. Wright are producing as well.

Women Like Us isn’t the only collaborative effort between Netflix and Higher Ground. Other Netflix projects involving Higher Ground include The Altruists, All the Sinners Bleed, and an untitled mother-daughter comedy starring Julianne Moore.

Higher Ground won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature for its 2019 film American Factory. Other popular movies and television shows under the production house include Rustin, Fatherhood, We the People, Our Oceans, and many more.
