Verity Author Has a Secret Reason Why Anne Hathaway’s Casting Was So Important for Erotic Movie

The mastermind behind Verity has a secret reason for choosing Anne Hathaway for her erotic movie. The actress plays the renowned titular author, Verity Crawford, in the live-action adaptation of the best-selling thriller Verity.

Ahead of the film’s theatrical release in India, author Colleen Hoover highly praised the actress for her portrayal of Verity. She told India Today, “She nailed it. Seeing all the different roles she’s playing and her range, I feel like this is a great movie to cap off the year of Anne Hathaway.”

That’s not all. What made the actress’ casting even more special for the author was her personal connection with her. Hathaway’s The Princess Diaries is not only Hoover’s husband’s favorite film, but he is also a longtime fan of the 43-year-old.

“Also, The Princess Diaries is my husband’s favorite movie. He loves Anne Hathaway. I was so excited to tell him when she signed on. He and I still just feel like we pinch ourselves every day. It still feels surreal,” Hoover candidly shared.

Anne Hathaway’s Verity role is just one part of the film’s star-studded story

While Hathaway’s portrayal of the troubled writer in the erotic movie had Hoover showering her with praise, the actress’s role as Verity is just one part of the titular film’s star-studded story.

In the story, Dakota Johnson joins Hathaway as Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer. Lowen is brought to the remote Crawford estate to complete Verity’s book series as a ghostwriter after the celebrated author is incapacitated by an accident and left unable to write.

However, things take a darker turn when Lowen stumbles upon Verity’s autobiographical account, which contains disturbing revelations about her husband Jeremy (played by Josh Hartnett) and their family. As she continues to go through the manuscript, Lowen realizes how closely Verity’s fictional work mirrors her real-life truth.

Directed by Michael Showalter, Verity is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 2, 2026.
