Robert Eggers’ Werwulf Horror Movie Sets New Trailer Release Date in Eerie Video
A new teaser for Robert Eggers‘ Werwulf horror movie has been released. The update comes with a release date for the medieval movie’s second trailer. Directed by Robert Eggers, known for his ambient, psychological-horror period films, Werwulf has already received early praise from audiences.
The official X account of Werwulf uploaded a 15-second atmospheric trailer teaser video. The video opens with an eerie moon hidden behind thick, passing clouds and ends with a bloodcurdling howl. The caption suggests that the official trailer for Eggers’ upcoming gothic horror movie will be released on September 26, 2026.
The opening clip of the teaser was previously shown in the first trailer, which was released on June 29, 2026. A poster for the medieval horror movie was also released the following month. According to the official logline, “Werwulf is a harrowing tale of devotion, damnation, and the devil within.”
What do we know about Eggers’ medieval werewolf movie
Werwulf features Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the lead, alongside Willem Dafoe and Lily-Rose Depp. The trio previously worked with director Robert Eggers on his 2024 film Nosferatu, which holds an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Eggers’ take on a medieval werewolf movie differs from the common elements seen in Hollywood werewolf movies, according to the director. In a previous interview with Esquire, the director said, “All the clichés of being bitten by a werewolf and silver bullets and a lot of the stuff that has become almost campy don’t exist in the mythology of this movie.”
The ensemble also includes Ralph Ineson, Jan Bijvoet, Ritchi Edwards, and Bodhi Rae Breathnach. Eggers writes it in collaboration with the Icelandic poet and novelist, Sjón. The writers also served as producers for the medieval horror movie, alongside Tim Bevan, Garrett Bird, and Eric Fellner. Bernard Bellew, Chris Columbus, and Eleanor Columbus are the executive producers of the project.
Werwulf will release in U.S. theaters on December 25, 2026.
