Anthony Hopkins & Richard Attenborough’s Outlandish Evil Puppet Horror Movie Now Free to Watch
Anthony Hopkins‘ psychological horror movie, directed by Richard Attenborough, is now available to watch for free. Hopkins received Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations for his performance as Corky Withers.
Magic is now available for free on YouTube with ads. The movie is based on William Goldman’s 1976 novel of the same name, and he also wrote the screenplay for the feature. The Oscar-winning director’s film also stars Ann-Margret, Burgess Meredith, and Ed Lauter.
The film follows a struggling magician, Charles ‘Corky’ Withers, whose career takes a turn after he introduces a ventriloquist act.
What is Magic with Anthony Hopkins about?
Hopkins plays Corky Withers, a magician who finds success after introducing a foul-mouthed wooden dummy named Fats to his act. His performances attract attention and eventually earn him an opportunity to appear on a TV show. But that changes when he learns the role requires a mental evaluation, and he bolts before agreeing to anything.
He heads back to his town with Fats in tow and checks into a cabin at a resort run by Peggy Ann Snow (Ann-Margret), his former high school sweetheart. Corky convinces her to end her marriage to Duke (Ed Lauter), rekindling their old connection.
As Corky grows closer to Peggy, his relationship with Fats deteriorates. The situation escalates when Corky’s agent Ben Greene (Burgess Meredith) arrives and becomes concerned about Corky’s mental state. Fats increasingly influences Corky’s actions as the situation moves towards its climax.
Distributed by 20th Century Studios, the movie was released in theaters on November 8, 1978. According to The Numbers, the R-rated movie grossed $23 million and had a runtime of 107 minutes.
Joseph E. Levine and Richard P. Levine produced Magic, with Jerry Goldsmith composing the score. A remake has also been announced, with Sam Raimi attached to direct and co-produce alongside Roy Lee for Lionsgate. Mark Swift and Damian Shannon are writing the script.
