Rosario Dawson, George Lopez, & More Big Stars Join Cast of Gina Rodriguez’s Boxing Movie

Several big names have been cast in key roles in Gina Rodriguez‘s directorial debut, House of Guerrero. It is described as a boxing movie for a new generation of moviegoers.

The newly cast stars include Ahsoka’s Rosario Dawson and Blue Beetle’s George Lopez, with Carlos Sanson Jr. leading. Sanson Jr. will play the role of Alex, Lopez will star as Alejandra, and Dawson will play Elsa, Alex’s mother. Gina Rodriguez herself stars as Alex’s older sister, Paloma.

Producers on the film include Justin Baldoni, Scott Budnick, Rodriguez herself, and Molly Breeskin, among others.

What is Gina Rodriguez’s boxing movie about?

The story of House of Guerrero is based on an original concept developed by Rodriguez and Bernardo Cubría. The story follows Alex Guerrero, who was once at the head of a promising boxing career. However, his rise to fame is cut short for an undisclosed reason. Now, receiving a second shot at glory, Guerrero is back with his ex-fighter father, Alejandro, in his corner.

The film follows the father-son duo as they deal with the passing of Alex’s mother, Elsa. Looking for a trainer, Alex turns to his older sister. She is a gifted boxer herself and will help him make the most of his second chance.

Andrew Calof of Wayfarer Studios, one of the producers on the film, commented on the talent that Rodriguez was able to assemble. He said, “The level of talent Gina has assembled for House of Guerrero is truly exceptional. We’re only a few days into shooting, and you can already feel the laughter, the love, and the raw emotion coming through in these performances.”
