Eli Roth’s Controversial Horror Movie Is on Digital Streaming Today
Eli Roth‘s horror film arrives on streaming today. This is The Horror Section’s first film. It’s directed by Roth himself and produced by his independent company.
Ice Cream Man had a limited theatrical run and is now available for streaming. It stars Ari Millen as the titular character in a story that plays with the audience’s expectations. In a reversal of what would be a classic take on such a story, The Ice Cream Man is the one who is haunted by the children of the neighborhood.
Regarding the horror aspect involving children, Roth revealed, “I wrote this movie with Noah Belson in 2003, and for years, people would read it and go, ‘You can’t do this. You can’t ask children to even perform these scenes. This is too insane.’ And I’d say, ‘No, kids love gore. They love Halloween. I want to make this the craziest movie I’ve ever done.”
The cast also includes Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O’Reilly, Kiori Mirza Waldman, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis. The screenplay was written by Roth himself, collaborating with Noah Belson.
When and where to stream Ice Cream Man at home
Starting today, Ice Cream Man can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video via the premium video-on-demand option. The film can also be purchased on digital platforms, including Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and YouTube Movies & TV.
The controversial film, however, has not resonated well with critics. The movie currently sits at a measly 25% on Rotten Tomatoes, with a slightly better 46% audience score. Largely criticized for a script that simply doesn’t work, the plot has been described as aimless and relying on gore to get by without a substantial horror offering.
As reported by Variety, in its 10-day theatrical run, the box-office was film was able to earn $7.6 million against its budget of 5.5 million.
