Narnia’s Latest Photos Offer First Look at Strawberry & a Magical Location in Greta Gerwig Movie
Narnia is offering a first look at one of its most mysterious locations. New photos show the Wood Between the Worlds and several characters entering the magical realm. The images also provide a glimpse of Strawberry, the horse who joins the adventure.
Empire Magazine has unveiled the first-look images from Greta Gerwig‘s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. The photos show Digory and Polly entering the mysterious woodland alongside Jadis, Uncle Andrew, Frank, and Strawberry. The magical location connects the different universes featured in C.S. Lewis’ story. Gerwig is writing and directing the adaptation of Lewis’ 1955 novel.
The first look offers a glimpse into Greta Gerwig’s vision for Narnia
The Wood Between the Worlds plays an important role in The Magician’s Nephew. The realm appears as a vast woodland filled with moss-covered pools, each leading to a different world, allowing Digory and Polly to travel beyond their own reality. The children eventually enter Charn, a ruined world that brings them face-to-face with Jadis.
Their journey begins with Uncle Andrew’s experiments. He believes that magical rings can transport people between different worlds. After testing the idea, he gives Digory and Polly rings of their own. The two children soon discover that the experiment works, sending them into the Wood Between the Worlds.
The adventure also brings Frank and his horse Strawberry into the story. Kobna Holdbrook-Smith plays Frank in the film, while Strawberry becomes an unexpected companion for Digory and Polly. The horse later takes on a more important role after the group reaches Narnia.
Aslan is also central to the story’s connection to Narnia’s origins. Meryl Streep voices the magical lion in Gerwig’s adaptation. In the novel, Aslan creates Narnia itself through his song, giving the story a direct connection to the birth of the fantasy world.
The story also establishes the origins of one of Narnia’s major villains. Jadis, played by Emma Mackey, eventually becomes the White Witch. Her encounter with the newly created Narnia sets up the conflict that later becomes central to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Lewis published The Magician’s Nephew as the sixth book in the series, but its story takes place first chronologically. Gerwig’s film therefore explores events that take place long before the Pevensie children enter Narnia.
Netflix has scheduled the film to debut in theaters on February 12, 2027, before its streaming release on April 2, 2027.
