Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew Unveils First Look at Meryl Streep’s Aslan

The first look at Aslan in Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew has been officially revealed. Aslan’s character is voiced by the veteran actor Meryl Streep.

Greta Gerwig, known for her work in Barbie, is bringing Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew to the big screens next year. In a recent update from Empire Magazine, Aslan’s first look has been revealed to the audience.

The striking feature of the mythical lion that will instantly attract attention is its heterochromatic eyes. While one of the eyeballs had a bluish hue, the other one displayed an orange tinge. Additionally, Aslan also sported a bold red-striped visage, giving the character an intimidating appearance.

Elaborating on why Gerwig chose Streep for voicing the character, the filmmaker told Empire Magazine, “I wanted someone who was profound but not pretentious, who had gravitas but not morose self-seriousness. Someone who could communicate depth and pathos as well as joy and delight.”

The Barbie director added, “I wanted someone who was older than 70, so there was a wisdom of experience, but who also had the capacity of fresh wonder, like a child. And also to be one of the greatest actors to ever do it. That list is not a long one.”

Who else is starring in Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew besides Meryl Streep?

Alongside Meryl Streep, the cast of the fantasy adventure also features Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, Emma Mackey, Denise Gough, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Susan Wokoma, David McKenna, and Beatrice Campbell.

The official logline of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew reads, per Netflix Tudum, “Academy Award–nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig brings C. S. Lewis’s beloved story The Magician’s Nephew to the screen for the first time in a sweeping adventure that invites dreamers of all ages to experience the creation of Narnia.”

Adapted from C. S. Lewis’ novel The Magician’s Nephew, the film is produced by director Greta Gerwig alongside Mark Gordon, Amy Pascal, Vincent Sieber-Smith, and Douglas Gresham. Gresham is also contributing as an executive producer. Melvin Adams and Patricia Whitcher are the other executive producers, while Christine Crais is co-producing the film.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is scheduled to hit the theaters on February 12, 2027.
