Friday 4: Anticipated Ice Cube Comedy Sequel Movie Gets Great Update From Nia Long

Actress Nia Long has a massive Friday update to delight fans. She revealed what Ice Cube might have in store for the narrative going forward with Friday 4.

In an interview with Variety, Long revealed that the next installment of the franchise is in active development. Her co-star Ice Cube will send the team a fresh script to read in connection with Friday 4.

Friday After Next, the last entry in the franchise, hit theaters in 2002. The future of the next installment, titled Last Friday, was up in the air for the following two and a half decades. The fourth film was only greenlit in 2017. Cube reported in 2019 that a script was complete, hoping to release the fourth installment during the film’s 25th Anniversary, which was supposed to be in 2020.

However, it wasn’t until May 2026 that the film was officially announced as being developed, after facing constant back-and-forth between studios and Ice Cube himself. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Cube and co-star Mike Epps revealed the story will revolve around gentrification and community preservation in South Central. The interview also revealed that production on the film was set to start towards the end of the year.

It has also been reported that Ice Cube is currently looking for an April 2027 release. The original film was released in 1995 and was instrumental in launching the careers of a slew of comedians who were still struggling in the industry at the time. These included now fan favorites such as Chris Tucker and Bernie Mac. Across three films, the franchise has earned $121 million. It remains to be seen if the franchise has enough cultural capital left to make a splash at the current superhero-fantasy-obsessed box office.
