Community’s Long-Awaited Movie Gets ‘Very Optimistic’ Update From Danny Pudi

Danny Pudi has shared an optimistic update on the long-awaited Community movie, giving fans a new reason to stay positive. The actor plays an optimistic new character named Hampton Squib in the Golden Axe animated show.

Speaking with ComingSoon while promoting his new animated series, Pudi was asked whether he was optimistic that the project would actually happen. “Oh, I’m bringing my Hampton energy full force. Yes, I’m very optimistic,” Pudi said. He also credited the show’s lasting fanbase years after it ended by saying, “people are still connecting with the show and it’s resonating.”

The 47-year-old later added, “I think all of us, we’re still super tight as a group.” He said the cast is excited about the possibility of being back together in the study room and simply having fun again. The Community star believes that when the movie does happen, it will be “really, really fun.”

How long has it been since the Community TV show ended?

Created by Dan Harmon, the acclaimed comedy show originally premiered on NBC in September 2009 before moving to Yahoo! Screen for its final season. The series last aired in 2015, more than a decade ago.

The show’s final episode premiered on June 2, 2015, which showed #andamovie at the end. Since then, fans have been waiting for the movie to see the light of day. Peacock officially greenlit the Community movie in 2022, with Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong confirmed to return. Yvette Nicole Brown later confirmed her return as Shirley.

Plot details for the film remain largely under wraps. Series creator Dan Harmon and executive producer Andrew Guest are writing the script. Sony Pictures Television and Universal Television are also involved with the project.

The Community movie does not yet have an official release date. However, all six seasons of the original series are available on Peacock.
