Matthew McConaughey’s R-Rated Neo-Western Movie Now Streaming on Digital

Matthew McConaughey’s R-rated movie has officially arrived on digital platforms. The film, featuring the Oscar-winning actor in a gritty new crime thriller filled with elements of Western, Southern Gothic drama, and revenge, is available for streaming starting today. 

The Rivals of Amziah King arrived on Premium Video on Demand and digital storefronts on September 15, 2026. The digital release arrives following its theatrical release through Black Bear Pictures. 

Viewers can rent or purchase the movie through major digital retailers. It is available on major platforms, including Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Fandango at Home. Physical editions are scheduled to follow on November 3, with 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD releases planned.

The film has also received a strong critical response. The Rivals of Amziah King currently holds an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising McConaughey’s performance and the movie’s unusual combination of crime, music, and rural drama.

What to know about Matthew McConaughey’s latest Western thriller

Written and directed by Andrew Patterson, who previously made The Vast of Night, the 131-minute movie takes place in rural Oklahoma. McConaughey plays Amziah King, a beekeeper, mandolin player, and respected local figure who runs a successful honey business.

Amziah’s life changes when his estranged foster daughter, Kateri, played by newcomer Angelina LookingGlass, returns to town following a personal tragedy. He takes her into his home and introduces her to his way of life, including his beekeeping operation and love of bluegrass music.

Their peaceful relationship soon changes when Amziah’s business comes under threat. Rival operators and honey thieves target his operation, pushing the story toward a violent conflict between Amziah’s close-knit group and a powerful agricultural businessman.

Kurt Russell plays the agricultural tycoon, with Cole Sprouse, Owen Teague, Rob Morgan, Scott Shepherd, and Tony Revolori also appearing in the cast.

With its unusual setting, distinctive characters, and combination of crime and Western elements, The Rivals of Amziah King gives McConaughey another unconventional leading role following his celebrated dramatic work.
