Tom Cruise’s Take on Netflix Streaming Service May Surprise His Biggest Fans

Tom Cruise revealed his take on Netflix and streaming services. The Mission: Impossible star’s views on these streaming services may surprise fans; however, Cruise also offered an explanation rooted in something he had to learn early on.

In an interview with GQ, Cruise was asked about a lesson that the actor had to learn early on in life. The Digger actor replied, “I was living in many different schools, and it taught me about human behavior, about life, but it’s a journey.”

Relating this to movies, he continued, “So movies are—this is about humanity. I have nothing against cable, TV, or Netflix. I think it’s great. Create jobs and everything. But what I like about cinema is that it brings all of us together in a room to share an experience. I say, ‘Understand the tools, then go create what you want to create.'”

The Oscar-nominated actor also revealed that he is not afraid to appear foolish or intense on set, and often warns his co-stars and crewmates about it. Cruise added, ‘I work hard, and people that work with me, they know. I expect a lot and I’m up-front about it. It’s like: ‘The rumors are true. And do you want this?'”

Has Tom Cruise ever made a Netflix movie before?

The Oscar-nominated actor has never made a Netflix movie before. Nor has the Top Gun star produced for the streaming service before. The actor has historically stuck to making theatrical features.

However, his movies are available to stream on licensed platforms such as Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max, and others. These movies include the Mission: Impossible movie series, the Top Gun series, Edge of Tomorrow, Jack Reacher, The Last Samurai, Magnolia, and Vanilla Sky.

Cruise’s next theatrical release is the dark comedy Digger, in which he plays Digger Rockwell. Helmed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, the movie is slated to release in theaters on October 2, 2026.

The 64-year-old also has other movies lined up in his slate. For instance, Days of Thunder 2 was recently announced and will feature Anne Hathaway. Moreover, Top Gun 3 was announced earlier this year, with a script underway. A World War II action drama, Broadsword, directed by Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie, is also in the works.
