Naomi Scott & Lukas Gage’s Widely Beloved Horror Movie Streams on Netflix Today

Naomi Scott and Lukas Gage’s celebrated horror flick couldn’t have asked for a better time to arrive on Netflix. The film comes right before spooky season kicks into full swing, riding the high that films like Obsession and The Backrooms have given the genre.

Smile 2 is a 2024 horror film that was penned and directed by Parker Finn, who also wrote the first film in the franchise, which was released in 2022. At the center of the franchise is the Smile curse, which drives its victims to suicide while having their faces twisted into grotesque smiles.

Smile 2 brings Naomi Scott’s pop star nightmare to life

At the center of the plot of Smile 2 is Naomi Scott’s Skye Riley, a pop singer who is gearing up to make a comeback as she prepares to embark on a tour. However, inexplicable and bizarre events begin happening around her with increasing frequency, affecting her mental health.

Smile 2, much like its predecessor, received a lot of critical and commercial success. Against the minuscule budget of $28 million, the film was able to bring in $138.1 million. Critically, the film received a lot of praise as well. Naomi Scott’s performance was highlighted as an integral part of the film’s positive reception. Parker Finn’s writing on the franchise also received a lot of praise, especially for how he could bring the Smile premise back for a sequel without making it feel stale or like a rehash.

The franchise originated as a short film that was written, co-produced, and directed by Parker Finn. Laura Hasn’t Slept serves as a prequel to the Smile franchise as a whole and is considered the first entry in the film series. Smile, however, remains the first feature-length entry of the franchise. Plans to continue the franchise were revealed by Finn himself. It was revealed in December of 2024 that Smile 3 would begin filming somewhere in 2026

Along with Scott and Gage, the film starred Rosemarie DeWitt, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Kyle Gallner, among others.
