Ryan Reynolds recently addressed his relationship with the 2011 Green Lantern film in an interview shared by Entertainment Tonight. The actor called the widely panned superhero movie a formative experience. He said he learned valuable lessons from the production process.
Reynolds acknowledged the film’s shortcomings but emphasized its positive impact on his life. “I learned so much making that movie,” he told Entertainment Tonight. He added, “There are core lessons that come of it.” Reynolds also credited the project with shaping his trajectory. “I owe my entire career to that movie. I owe everything to that,” he said.
The actor also highlighted a deeply personal connection to the film. Reynolds met his wife, Blake Lively, on the set of Green Lantern. She played the role of Carol Ferris in the 2011 production. He described the entire experience as “a gift that keeps on giving.”
Green Lantern earned a 25% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes upon release. The film grossed only $237 million against a $200 million budget. Warner Bros. abandoned sequel plans after the disappointing box office performance. Reynolds previously spent years joking about the film in Deadpool movies and promotional campaigns.
HBO’s new series Lanterns now stars Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The show premiered on August 16, 2026, and attracted 9.3 million viewers worldwide in its first three days. It holds a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The series features a grounded detective story approach inspired by True Detective and Slow Horses.
