What Chris Hemsworth’s new movie Learning to Fly is about

Directed by Max Lowe, the 103-minute film explores the extreme world of ultrarunning and the athletes pushing their limits.

Aisha McAdams is the central subject of the real-life documentary. She is a photographer and former competitive runner. In the film, she documents elite athletes including Jim Walmsley and Eszter Csillag at the Western States Endurance Run and Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc

Her camera captures the sport’s late-night camaraderie, painful defeats and emotional victories. Spending time with these athletes also forces McAdams to confront the part of her life she left behind. The experience makes her reconsider why she walked away from running. Their pursuit of extreme endurance makes her question whether she can find her way back to the sport.

As per the official synopsis, “Under a full moon over the Alps, a headlamp bobs through the dark for the eighteenth hour. This is ultra running: 100 miles of mountain terrain, run through the night, chasing something just past the edge of what seems humanly possible.”

The film also features athletes from the ultra-running community, including Jim Walmsley, Eszter Csillag, Rod Farvard, Jess Brazeau and Vincent Bouillard.

Evan Hayes, Katy Chevigny and Ayesha Rokadia serve as producers. Lowe, Justin Barocas, Benjamin Grayson, Kevin Joseph, Andy Mininger, Chad Moore, Erika Gabrielli, Robin Green and Stefano Caroti are executive producers.

Learning to Fly combines the world of endurance sports with McAdams’ personal journey. The film offers a close look at what drives runners to keep going through extreme physical challenges.
