The official synopsis reads, “A planet-destroying meteor is made entirely of an element that, when heated up, turns into molten magma in the sky, making it impervious to defensive means. As it heads straight for Earth, a team of scientists must band together to stop the impact before it obliterates the world.”

What do we see in the Meteor Extinction trailer?

The trailer for the Meteor Extinction begins with a report on a “six-mile-wide meteor approaching Earth’s atmosphere.” Audiences also get a look at Daniel Baldwin, who is informed that the space rock is an “extinction-level” threat, with only 6 days remaining until impact.

Snippets of space debris raining down on Earth and a run-down Capitol building appear in the trailer, hinting at the effects of impending doom. With the goal of “keeping people safe” in mind, the lead character suggests getting the React Team back.

They work together to alter the trajectory of the massive space rock before doomsday. The team sends lasers, known as “Sentinels,” into space to break down the rock; however, this proves problematic. The meteor, now split into “three distinct rocks,” is shown heading towards the planet at an alarming rate.

As the trailer intensifies, a mother-daughter duo heads to space to stop the doom. As the collision starts to take place across the planet, the mother tells the daughter to brace herself and lends out a hand. The trailer ends with a massive collision in space, as the meteor breaks into smaller pieces.

Meteor Extinction is helmed by Anthony C. Ferrante. The director is known for his other works, such as Geostorm, Dante’s Hotel, and Nix. It is written by Marc Gottlieb and Ryan Ebert. The upcoming movie’s ensemble also includes Jessica Morris, Mica Javier, Nate Timmerman, and Allison Gold.

The Asylum’s Meteor Extinction will be released on Friday, August 21, 2026.
