Insidious 6 Box Office Won’t Beat Spider-Man 4, but What About Insidious 5?

The Insidious 6 movie hits theaters this weekend, but it won’t dethrone Spider-Man: Brand New Day at the box office. Horror remains a reliable draw, yet the franchise faces a steep drop from its previous installment as summer winds down.

Insidious 6 box office predictions for opening weekend are in

Sony Pictures releases Insidious: Out of the Further in roughly 3,000 North American theaters on Friday, projecting an opening weekend around $23 million. That number will have the sequel well behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which leads the box office for a fourth consecutive weekend. However, the more pressing comparison for the horror title is its immediate predecessor.

Insidious: The Red Door opened to $33 million domestically in 2023 before amassing $189 million globally. A $23 million start for Out of the Further would represent a decline of roughly 30 percent from that benchmark. The sixth one carries a modest $18 million production budget, so profitability remains assured even with softer attendance. Hailing from Screen Gems, Stage 6 Films and Blumhouse Atomic Monster, the franchise continues to operate with lean financial efficiency (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Amelia Eve, Brandon Perea and Lin Shaye star in writer-director Jacob Chase’s film, which centers on a young mother who can bring spirits back with her to the real world. The sequel holds a 65% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Jonathan Sim of ComingSoon.com reviewed, “Chase brings enough of his own ideas and visual flourishes to make this entry feel worthwhile. There is something particularly exciting about watching a long-running horror franchise continually hand the reins to different filmmakers.”

The Red Door benefited from the return of original stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne, a nostalgia-driven hook that Out of the Further lacks. Without that built-in fan appeal, Insidious 6 relies more heavily on the franchise’s core horror audience and positive word of mouth.

All in all, Out of the Further won’t touch Spider-Man, but it may still deliver enough scares to justify yet another trip into the Further.
