Rosario Dawson isn’t giving up on Claire Temple after deleted Spider-Man role
Rosario Dawson recently addressed her deleted cameo as Claire Temple in Spider-Man: Brand New Day during a panel at GalaxyCon.
Dawson revealed she had already prepared a behind-the-scenes social media post featuring her grandson in Spider-Man gear before receiving the email confirming her cut. She expressed clear disappointment but remained optimistic about her MCU future.
Dawson told the audience, “It still means that, you know, my character is somewhere in that same universe. And I really love that. So, I hope I get to be Claire again.” She also compared Claire Temple to her Star Wars role as Ahsoka Tano, noting both characters “meet a lot of different people.” That comparison highlights the potential for Claire to appear across multiple MCU projects in the future.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers previously confirmed Dawson filmed a scene for the movie. McKenna described the situation as “an embarrassment of riches with so many great characters and so many great scenes.” Sommers added that Claire’s scene was cut purely for runtime, stating the deleted sequence “was very good.”
Reports earlier suggested Claire Temple appeared in a hospital sequence after Peter Parker’s fight with The Scorpion. Peter reportedly had a brief interaction with Claire while wearing his hospital gown and mask. Dawson’s character previously served as the Night Nurse across multiple Defenders Saga shows including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has earned $1.67 billion worldwide in just 12 days since its July 31 release. The film shattered Avengers: Endgame’s domestic opening weekend record of $357 million with a $360 million debut. Dawson’s potential return could materialize through Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 or another MCU streaming project.
